THE SCIENCE OF MINDFULNESS

  • Honey Yoga 4952 El Cajon Boulevard San Diego, CA, 92115 United States (map)

Science + Yoga + Cocktails = A pretty fab Wednesday night

Join us for our second annual SCIENCE PARTY! in partnership with the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering. The theme of this year’s event is The Science of Mindfulness.

We are incredibly stoked to have UCSD Professor of Psychology Karen Dobkins, Ph.D. presenting at the event. See her Ted Talk here. Her talk at our event, entitled the “Science of Mindfulness” will help explain how evolution of the brain alongside a bustling modern world has created a “monkey-mind mentality”, and how offerings from a variety of disciplines, both old (Buddhism) and new (Psychology and Neuroscience), can help us find personal freedom.

After Professor Dobkins’ presentation, there will be an hour-long, beginner-friendly yoga practice led by Bridget Regan and Olivia Hayward, owners of Honey Yoga.

Finally, join us for beer, wine, and soft-drinks and socialize with your fellow science and mindfulness lovers!

Tickets: $20

Dr. Karen Dobkins got her Ph.D. in Neuroscience and is now a professor in the Psychology Department at UC San Diego.  Although her main area of research study has been infant and child development (including children with Autism), her most recent research passion is in the area of Mindfulness and well-being. Outside the world of research, she leads a workshop she created called “Principles of Clarity” aimed at improving well-being, and is also a co-founder of a company called “Spacious-Minds”, which builds conscious daycares through interior design and well-being courses.  She is a practitioner of  Yoga, a leader in “IntenSati” (which blends high intensity aerobics with call and response positive affirmations), as well as a Mindfulness coach.  She loves giving inspirational talks, including her Tedx “The Space between Kansas and Oz”, which is about loving “what is” while continuing to manifest your dreams.  Dr. Karen Dobkins got her PhD in Neuroscience and is now a professor in the Psychology Department at UC San Diego.  Although her main area of research study has been infant and child development (including children with Autism), her most recent research passion is in the area of Mindfulness and well-being.
